Little Village operate across several London boroughs and have seen significant growth since their launch in 2016, therefore an expansion project was necessary to accommodate their needs.

WHO ARE LITTLE VILLAGE?

Little Village makes a big difference to families with babies and young children living in poverty across London. Via its network of baby banks it passes on pre-loved goods from one family to another - clothes, toys and equipment - so that many more babies and young children have the essential things they need to thrive. Families either visit a Little Village hub, or items are packed with care and delivered to their home. But it doesn’t stop there. Little Village also connects families into a wider network of support, helping them to build and extend their own "village". Thanks to the generous donations of pre-loved items, precious time and money, since launching in 2016, Little Village has supported more than 32,000 children.

THE OBJECTIVE

Little Village logo

Rapid Racking were contacted by Little Village to assist with their project, in which they would be transforming a recently vacated Mercedes factory warehouse into their Wandsworth distribution centre. This centre will be serving as a hub for their various other premises, the central location allowing for swifter distribution to branches around central London.

WHY DID LITTLE VILLAGE CHOOSE RAPID RACKING?

Having worked with Rapid Racking previously, Little Village contacted Rob, our Design Specialist, to assist with their project. The charity felt confident in trusting Rapid Racking with this project due to the high level of service and specialist knowledge that they had previously experienced. Little Village considered purchasing second hand racking, however, the benefit of having a Design Specialist on site to listen to their needs, offer advice and provide revised drawings, played a huge part in choosing Rapid Racking.

THE PROJECT’S SUCCESS!

After understanding their goal, Rob, advised the solution of Pallet Racking, meaning Little Village was able to fit 30,000sqft of storage into 10,000sqft with roof space, using elevation. Rob suggested using wire mesh decks as they are strong, durable and are not subject to decay. This proving a great choice for a reliable, long-lasting solution.

As an ever-growing charity, it was important to allow space for future expansion. Rob suggested installing a number of Pallet Racking bays without levels, this was done to future proof the installation, allowing the customer to add further levels as and when they require.

As a charity, one of the defining factors was budget. Rob balanced the cost very well; capital outlay had to be efficient and effective; Rob was intrinsic in working out a cost effective solution.

POSITIVE OUTCOMES FROM THE PROJECT

Emily Compston from the charity explained how the new storage space has transformed the way the organisation operates.

Thanks to effective communication, Rob’s expertise and responsiveness, Little Village have been able to fulfill their storage goal and after moving to the new premises, they now have more space to store more products, and streamline their processes.

When asked if they would recommend Rapid Racking to a friend or colleague, Emily responded "most definitely!"
